Soul Sister 2018

Rhythm of the Rockies- Soul Sister 2018

Nancy Kanuka is, in her own words, a “full-time” Sweet Adeline! She discovered barbershop singing with Chinook Winds Chorus and The Generation Gap Quartet while a U of C student in the 1970s. She returned to the organization in 1991 and is now a member of 2 Calgary choruses: Rhythm of the Rockies and Alberta Gold Chorus and also sings with Ambrosia Quartet. There’s lots of repertoire in that head of hers!

In her spare time, she also completed her Director Certification Program and became a Certified Director.

Nancy has taken on numerous roles such as Team Coordinator, shepherding Rhythm through its first International competition and garnered nothing but praise from the Management Team and other chorus members for her administrative know-how and her willingness to share her talents on all fronts.

Nancy continues to work on Rhythm’s music team and frequently leads vocal craft classes at rehearsals. She is a valuable asset to the Team, the Bass Section and the chorus overall. She’s a fixture at chorus performances and always positive in her approach to all chorus matters. She loves being a page at the Quartet Contest for Region 26 and has done so at least a half dozen times. She has proven herself solid, consistent, and knowledgeable both administratively and musically.

Nancy is a real team player, taking on many challenges, always with a smile and a warm heart. It’s fitting that Nancy helped establish Rhythm’s “Soul Sister” award and this year, Rhythm of the Rockies is proud to present Nancy Kanuka as its 2018 Soul Sister and nominee for the “Spirit of 26” award.
