2016 Division AA Champions!
Rhythm of the Rockie's trip to the Region 26 Contest in Saskatoon was an amazing success! Friday's quartet competition had three of our quartets performing and all three brought home awards. No Strings, who were the Regions 2015 champs, took first place AGAIN and will be heading to Las Vegas this fall to represent Region 26 in the International contest. As first place quartet, No Strings was provided with a Limo and champagne after the Contest to celebrate together and bask in the experience. Kaleidoscope, with their Jailbirds package, won the Open Division and Vox, with Rhythm member Nancy Ryan, won the Novice Quartet award. Congratulations to all of these talented ladies!
Saturday brought the Chorus Contest held in TCU Place - a beautiful theatre close by. Rhythm was up early preparing for the stage with their Yesterday I Heard the Rain / Shanghai package. Stage time always amounts to the fastest few minutes in a singer's life and before we knew it we were finished our set and headed to our seats to enjoy the rest of the Contest. The international judges panel presented the scores and we were thrilled to hear that we had improved our last regional score and won the Division AA title with a score of 636 points! We also took 2nd place overall in the Contest behind large chorus, Lion's Gate who are currently ranked 5th in the world! Our score set a record for the highest 2nd place score in the Region's history.
Next, we had a few hours to prepare for the Show of Champions which features the top quartets and choruses from the weekend. Always fun to perform some of our other repertoire for our region after the judges have put their pencils down :)
Back to the hotel and time to gather for the Afterglow and the chance to meet, chat and socialize with members from around the region as well as enjoy more chorus and quartets songs.
Thanks to our hosts, Magic City Chorus for all of their planning and hard work as they welcomed the West to Saskatoon! And to Vocal Motion for their back stage smiles, encouragement and assistance throughout the day.
Congratulations to all of the competitors and the Region for a wonderful event.
